National Relaxation Day is today, and we know exactly how you can make the most of it… an at-home spa! Here are our 6 ways to create your own at-home spa and truly feel like you’re winding down and taking a break.
1. Start off with a comfy robe
You can never go wrong with a warm, fuzzy dressing gown to slip into before your relaxing bathroom time. Relive the feeling of walking around the spa in your robe before your treatment, letting yourself unwind and ease into a state of relaxation.
2. Candles are your best friend
Why not light a candle...or 4! We suggest aromatherapy candles with scents such as lavender, eucalyptus and peppermint for the ultimate sensory experience to ease you into your at-home spa. Aromatherapy is a form of holistic therapy that harnesses the fragrances of aromatic plants in the form of essential oils. The scents help to enhance your overall sense of wellbeing, as well as balancing and restoring your mind and body. Aromatherapy candles also give a beautiful, tranquil ambience with their calm golden flame that bounces and reflects in your bathroom.
3. Turn on an essential oil diffuser
Want your bathroom to have that heavenly, soothing spa feel? An essential oil diffuser is your answer. Diffusers are a great alternative to candles depending on the intensity of scents you desire. The diffusers disperse essential oils from extracts from flowers, leaves and other plants into the surrounding air, making your home and the room atmosphere smell like a spa and overall making you feel calmer and gives you inner peace. Just remember to use oils of ‘therapeutic quality’ to ensure they are 100% pure and unaltered. 4. Treat your hair
Who doesn’t love that feeling of freshly washed hair that smells and feels amazing? However, we sometimes find ourselves falling in the routine of wash-and-go, without taking much time to treat our hair. We suggest taking your time to give your hair the TLC it deserves by leaving your conditioner on for 30 minutes or more for deeper moisturising. You can even add your own head massage to give yourself a full pampering.
5. Give yourself a face massage with these four easy steps
For the true at-home spa experience, you need to do the ultimate facial massage to make your skin feel flawless, but also for your mind to let go. Whilst your hair is moisturising in its conditioning hair mask for 30 minutes, this is a great way to pass the time and adds to your relaxation pampering.
I. Firstly start by pressing your fingers between your brows and working up the forehead. Do this several times.
II. Follow by massaging from the centre of your face, to your cheeks, then to your ears using your fingertips.
III. Use the previous movement but lower this on the face to the jawline, using the same fingertip motion.
IV. Finally, finish with vertical motions on the neck by stroking upwards from the collarbone
6. Finish off with some infused water for a refreshing end
To finish off your at-home spa experience, we suggest drinking fruit infused water. Water is a hydrator, replenisher and purifier for all your body organs, helping to flush out any toxins. You also benefit from vitamins and minerals added to your water when infused with fresh fruit and herbs, allowing for nutritional benefits such as improving your digestive health and boosting your immune function. We recommend trying any combination of lemon, cucumber, mint, strawberries, lime, peaches, oranges and basil to start, but you can also experiment with your own flavour combinations.
